General

  • It is the only Mexican musical group that has had dedicated front pages in the Los Angeles Times, San Diego Tribune, News Week, U.S. Week, People, New York Times and Diario Reforma de la Republica Mexicana.

  • Four platinum discs for their record sales of 2.5 million units of their albums “Mundo de Amor”, “14 Tucanazos Bien Pesados”, “Tucanes de Oro” and “Tucanes de Plata”, in the United States.

Chronologically

  • 1994 – Los Tucanes de Tijuana are baptized in Guadalajara Jalisco, by Martín Fabián, Pepe Garza and all of his team of broadcasters as: The New norteño Feeling, The musical group that changed the course of norteño Music.
  • 1995 and July 1997 – Only norteño musical group that reached the record sales of 5.5 million units in Mexico and the United States.
  • 1997 – Los Tucanes de Tijuana are the only artists that have achieved 6 of their songs to be simultaneously included in the top 50 most sold in the United States (source: Sound Scan, Billboard)
  • 1998 – October. They visit South America and Europe, in a promotional tour in Chile, afterwards they flew to Europe to present their album in Spain and promote in Barcelona and Madrid.
  • 1999 – June 20th. The only Mexican musical group in history to achieved four nominated and award-winning recordings at the BMI awards in Miami. 
  • 1999- Renowned distinguished visitors of CHINANTLA PUEBLA by the City Mayor.
  • 1999 - EL HERALDO as the musical group of the year, a recognition delivered by the Mexican Consul at the CIVIC CENTER of New York for being the most popular musical group of the year.
  • 1999 – Key to the City of Oxnard, California by the Mayor.
  • Only musical group that since their beginning, 20 years ago and by public request, has launched simultaneously 2 records to the market: one including songs and cumbias and another including only corridos.
  • Only musical group that has three truly popular ways of expression:  love songs, dance music and corridos.
  • Only Mexican norteño musical group that has launched material in Europe and in most of the countries of Latin America. 
  • Only norteño musical group that has been invited to perform at the EXA(Mexican radio station) concerts, in front of a 100% POP public. Thanks to their remixes. Only Mexican norteño musical group that has received a Gold Record in Chile.
  • 2000 – February. Only norteño musical group that up to the year of 2005 has been hired to perform at the HOUSTON ASTRODOME in Texas.
  • 2000 – December 3rd. They receive recognition from the Chiapas fair sponsorship for providing the best concert at the Tuxtla Gutierrez Chiapas fair.
  • 2001 – March 27th. Los Tucanes de Tijuana received from the Los Angeles, California City Councilman, the signed Resolution Letter based on their talent and their civic contribution to city democracy. They receive the official recognition “Resolution” from Los Angeles CA., for their campaign participation in favor of the Latino vote.
  • 2001 – August 16th.. They visit Central America for the first time, performing at the annual fair that is held at the city of CHIQUIMULA, GUATEMALA, where their people welcomed in a formidably manner.
  • 2001 – September 2nd. They are hired by the Los Angeles DODGERS to perform before the game and to throw the first ball in the game, before 54,000 spectators in an event called VIVAN LOS DODGERS (Long Live the Dodgers). This is achieved after a great survey applied to the Hispanic community of Los Angeles CA., the majority of the surveyed people voted in favor of LOS TUCANES.
  • 2002 – February. MIAMI CARNIVAL. Los Tucanes de Tijuana was the only Mexican Regional musical group representing popular music, within the significant CARNAVAL DE LA CALLE 8 EN MIAMI (8th Street Miami Carnival), celebrated at the American Airlines Sports Arena.
  • 2002 – July. Los Tucanes de Tijuana keep evolving with their record, “Jugo a la vida”, achieving the first place in the Billboard, while doing promotional activities and at the same time doing massive presentations in Mexico and in the United States.
  • 2003 – April 27. They were named Great Marshals of the La Fiesta Broadway in Los Angeles, CA., and they also received the City Keys.
  • 2003 – May. They are invited again by Televisa to the ACAFEST 2003 festival.
  • 2003 – May. They are invited to perform at the Billboard Awards in Miami, FL.
  • 2003 – August 2. They are hired by the Government Department of the Federal District, Mexico to perform at the capital main plaza (Zocalo), gathering more than 80,000 people. That same day they are back with Televisa, reason why the company filmed the event at the Zocalo and transmits 2 special national and international programs of Los Tucanes de Tijuana.
  • 2003 – October. For a second time they visit Central America, performing in Managua and in Esteli Nicaragua, returning to Mexico very surprised for the caring of the people in that country. The singers tell that they had to perform five times El Tucanazo and La Chica Sexy.
  • 2003 – November. Mario Quintero produced 2 theme songs for Lucia Mendez and Los Tucanes de Tijuana performed as a Duet with her. The songs are composed by the same Mario Quintero and are named: Almas Gemelas and La Pareja Dispareja, these two songs came included in Lucia Mendez’s record and one in Los Tucanes de Tijuana.
  • 2003 – December. They signed an exclusive sponsorship contract for one year in United States with the Colorado Beer Company COORS LIGHT.
  • 2003 – December. They signed a contract with Stetson Hat Co., the world largest hats company. The company offered them and exclusive contract in the United States, launching to the market a special edition of several hats with the image of the Sinaloa musical group. 
  • 2004 – April. Universal Music awards them with a Golden Record due to their high sales of their corridos album named: Imperio, this was done during a live performance on the television show La Parodia, in Televisa San Angel Mexico D.F.
  • 2004 – May. They were invited once again to the Acapulco festival ACAFEST 2004.
  • 2004 – September. Los Tucanes de Tijuana renew contract with Universal Music Latino. John Echevarria - President and Gilberto Moreno – Vice-president from Universal Music Latino affirm “To continue working with Los Tucanes de Tijuana it’s a joy and an honor as it is to work as a family and a distinction that Los Tucanes continue to trust us”. Productions like “Fiesta En La Sierra" and "El Virus del Amor”, are the most complete records in their entire history of successes, because besides integrating their corridos, cumbias and romantic ballads it also includes banda (a style of Mexican music) versions of songs like “El Virus Del Amor”, “La Nacha Bustos”, “Ando Volando” and “El Subconsciente” and also a pop version of “Luna Llena” as a bonus to their followers. Not only that but for their followers delight the musical group included also in their “Fiesta En la Sierra” record a DVD with musical videos of themes like “El Sinverguenza”, “Mis 3 Viejas”, “El Centenario”, “Los Tres Animales” and “El Heredero”. In the same manner, their record “El Virus de Amor” has for their followers several of their greatest hits on DVD: Musical videos like “Mi Amor Inseparable”, “Me Gusta Vivir de Noche”, “La Chica Sexy”, “Jugo a La Vida”; compositions that have become a true Los Tucanes de Tijuana legacy for their public. “Fiesta En La Sierra” and “El Virus Del Amor” records were produced and all songs were written by Mario Quintero Lara, singer, director and leader of LOS TUCANES DE TIJUANA, recently during an interview he thanks their public for the support to Los Tucanes de Tijuana, also thanking his partners and his disc label Universal for keep giving him the opportunity to keep written the songs and corridos that are filled with great themes that aggregates solid steps to the LOS TUCANES DE TIJUANA empire.
  • 2004 – November. Mario Quintero produces a song for Raul Sandoval, song named: REHABILIDATO and was written by Mario Quintero.
  • 2004 – December. They renew a sponsorship contract for one more year with Colorado beer, COORS LIGHT. 2004 – December. They renew an exclusivity contract with Stetson Hat Co., in the United States for a period of 3 more years.
  • 2005 – January. Mario Quintero records a duet with his friend Valentin Elizalde, the song LA TAMBORA VA A SONAR with Banda Sinaloense, such a song was produced and written by Mario Quintero.
  • "2005 – May. They are invited again to the Acapulco festival, ACAFEST 2005. 
  • 2006 – April. The sign a contract with Univision Music Group and in May they launched their first concept record “Siempre Contigo” a concert that was filmed live at Mexico City main plaza Zocalo, their first DVD and CD “CONCIERTO EN VIVO”, surpassing 100,000 sold copies."
  • "2006 – April. Mario Quintero receives a BMI recognition for his song “El Virus del Amor”
  • 2006 – August. They are invited to the “Fiesta Mexicana” festival event which was organized and produced by Televisa in Acapulco Guerrero."
  • 2006 – October. Market launch of the first song record, AMANTE DE LO BUENO, with the first promotional single “Sin Ti Soy Un Loco”.
  • In November of 2006 – the Televisora Española, S.A. records a special TV program “Todo el Mundo es Música” dedicated to the corridos, and the honoree invited composer was Mario Quintero, vocalist and leader of Los Tucanes de Tijuana, performing two of their famous corridos “Operacion Pesada” and “La Piedrita Colombiana”.
  • 2007 – January. Second cut “Amante de lo Bueno”, title of the same record album, theme that is outlining to be in the Billboard.
  • 2007 – On January 9th the corridos EL PAPA DE LOS POLLITOS corridos record álbum is launched, title of the álbum and first promotional single, a disc that surprised Univision Music Group for its high demand. The disc got sold out during its first week reaching the FIRST PLACE on the Billboard / SondScan – Mexican Region for its high sales, and reaching THIRD PLACE in the Hot Latin Albums.  
  • 2007 - May. For the third time, Televisa invites Los Tucanes de Tijuana to the ACAFEST festival in Acapulco Guerrero
  • 2007 - June. Los Tucanes de Tijuana celebrates their 20th Anniversary with a great concert at Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles, California, were great Radio, Press and Television personalities attended and also their fans could not miss the even where they sang more than 30 song and it was recorded and filmed live, a concert that will last in the history of Los Tucanes de Tijuana
  • 2007 - August. Televisa records a TV special "Guerrero Brilla", celebrating the 20 years of artistic career of Los Tucanes de Tijuana, at the beautiful port of Acapulco, Guerrero Mexico
  • 2007 - August. Los Tucanes de Tijuana are once again invited to the Acapulco festival "Fiesta Mexicana", event produced and transmitted nationally by Televisa company.
  • 2007 - August. The Cuban musical group "Yerbabuena" invites Los Tucanes de Tijuana to participate as a duet with the song "El Burrito", theme selected for the promotion of the movie "Ladron que Roba Ladron" which was also sold in iTunes.
  • 2008 - September. Las Vegas Nevada gives and reveals a star for Los Tucanes de Tijuana at the walk of fame in Las Vegas Blvd. / MGM Casino avenue.
  • 2008 - September 11. Las Vegas., the PROCLAMATION - The representative and assemblyman of the 11th district, Mr. Rubén J. Kihuen, granted a decree to make September 11th the official"Los Tucanes de Tijuana" day.
  • 2008 - September 11. Las Vegas, Nev. - The United States Senate - Senator John Ensign, granted the Recognition Certificate and Tribute to "Los Tucanes de Tijuana" and congratulates them on entering "Las Vegas Walk of Stars" and to become part of the legendary group or artists who have leaved their mark on Vegas stages. "May your star always shine with today's strength"
  • 2008 - September 11. Las Vegas, Nevada.- Senator Harry Raid grants "Certificado de Elogio" (Praise Certificate) to Los Tucanes de Tijuana giving recognition to this special occasion, honoring them with a star in "Las Vegas Walk of Stars", thanking them for their contribution to the Hispanic Community
  • 2008 - September 11. Las Vegas, Nev. - The 1st District Las Vegas Congress and his representative Shelley Berkley congratulates and grants recognition to Los Tucanes de Tijuana for their artistic contribution to Hispanic Culture.
  • 2008 September 16th. Los Angeles, CA. The city of Los Angeles dedicated the PROCLAMATION to the and they are invited to musically participate in the Proclamation of Independence. (Event to celebrate Mexican Independence).
  • 2008 - July 8th. - Mexico Tourist Promotion Council specially invites Los Tucanes de Tijuana to be an essential component of the Mexico Tourist promotions that will be produced by IFS - Industrial Films Studios - Mexico. D.F.
  • 2009. It is a great honor for Los Tucanes de Tijuana and especially for their composer Mario Quintero Lara for been chosen to write and produce the important song "Mexico es tu Casa", for the Tourism Secretary, a special theme song for the Mexican people.
  • 2010 - February 4th. Grammy Museum honors the successful career of Los Tucanes, placing the suit that was worn by Mario Quintero Lara during a concert in the great Latin starts exhibition, next to Ricky Martin, Celia Cruz, Los Tigres del Norte and Banda el Recodo. Los Tucanes de Tijuana always ahead by being the first to provide a series of acoustical conferences named "Nuestra Historia" (Our History)
  • 2011 - August. Los Tucanes de Tijuana are nominated and awarded with "Las Diosas de Plata" (Silver Goddesses) by the Cinematographic Journalist of Mexico for best movie song with the corrido "EL DIABLO", main song of the Mexican movie "El Infierno", winner of 9 Diosas de Planta including theirs.
  • 2011 - October - Los Tucanes de Tijuana are awarded with the "Legacy Award / Legado Musical" during the first Mexican Music Billboard Awards, for their artistical career in which event they released their first single "Amor Compartido" of their latest record album "365 Dias" that will be heard as of November 2011.
  • 2012 - January. Los Tucanes de Tijuana launches their new record album "365 Dias", promoting their new material at national and international television programs in Miami, Florida.
  • 2012 - January 27th. The video "Amor Compartido" is released worldwide, which was filmed in the beautiful country of Honduras.
  • 2012 - January 31st. A new record album "365 Días" with cumbia and ballads is released for sale
  • 2012 - February. For a week Los Tucanes promotes their new record album "365 Dias" at internationally important television programs in Miami Florida, were during the television program "Despierta America" they were awarded with a golden record for their album "El Arbol" and two platinum records for their albums "El Virus del Amor" and "Fiesta en la Sierra"
  • 2012 - February. Los Tucanes de Tijuana are nominated at the OYE! Awards in the Soloist or norteño Group category for their corridos production "El Arbol"
  • 2012 - March. Mario Quintero is awarded with his award #26 for composing "El Jefe de la Sierra" song from the record album "El Arbol", during the 19th BMI Awards.
  • 2012 - April. Los Tucanes de Tijuana launched the second musical cut "365 Dias" which comes from the record album with the same name.
  • 2012 - May. Los Tucanes de Tijuana are invited by Televisa to participate at "Mexico Suena" event.
  • 2012 - June. Los Tucanes de Tijuana dedicates "Carnaval Carolinas" song at the 15th Las Carolinas Festival, been this the event musical theme song in which they were awarded for being the "Most admired norteño musical group"
  • 2012 - July. Los Tucanes de Tijuana are invited to celebrate the 75th Del Mar, CA., anniversary in which they were present during the annual horse racing season closing with a main concert at the end of the last race at this important Californian event.
  • 2012 - August. Mario Quintero receives a tribute by his Mexican regional genre colleagues with a CD containing the greatest corridos performed by: Banda El Recodo, La Original Banda El Limón, Banda MS, Calibre 50, Julion Álvarez, El Potro de Sinaloa, amongst others...
  • 2012 September.- Los Tucanes de Tijuana were a key factor in the creation of the documentary film "Hecho en Mexico" from English producer Duncan Bridgeman, where deep-rooted traditions and customs of Mexico and beautifully are narrated, and the music which distinguish it in the entire world, which is why Los Tucanes de Tijuana were invited to participate in an essential way in this film.
  • 2012 - October. Los Tucanes de Tijuana are awarded at the Hispanic Newspapers convention for their music that is leader on the Mexican regional genre and for the artistic career that has leaved a mark worldwide.
  • 2012 - November. Los Tucanes de Tijuana won the Latin Grammy in the "norteño Album of the Year" category with their Record "365 Dias", been this their first Grammy during their 25 years of artistic career.
  • 2013 - May. Los Tucanes de Tijuana received a "Star", symbol that recognizes their artistic trajectory at Plaza Sendero in Toluca, Estado de Mexico. Recognition granted by the Representative Fidel Almanza, Andrea Estevez from the Red Cross, Monick Huitron "Una Mano Amiga en Toluca" and LA Fernando Guzman, Administrative Manager of Plaza Sendero.
  • 2013 - July. Los Tucanes are renowned "norteño Music Ambassadors" by the Major of Concello de Vilagarcía de Arousa at Pontevedra, Galicia - Spain Mr. Tomas Fole and by Mr. Alejandro Arteaga at Municipality of Colon, Queretaro. Galicia at the Cultural encounter between Mexico and Galicia at the MEXIGA festival.
  • 2013 - August. Yakima, Washington bilingual newspaper LA VOZ grants an award to "Los Papas de los Pollitos - Los Tucanes de Tijuana" for their support to Mexican people and the Migration Reforms.
  • 2013 - August. Board of Mexican Federations (COFEM) in Los Angeles grants a recognition to Los Tucanes for their example of growth and support to Latin communities, also for their participation on "El Corrido de Cuco" sound track for the movie "El Americano" and for their support for the Migration Reform.
